Gareth Hatch becomes Strategic Advisor to REIA
Goodbye, Hello Gareth Hatch!
Gareth is stepping down from REIA’s Advisory Board that he has chaired for the past three years. His replacement in this role will soon be revealed.
However, we are very pleased to announce that he will stay on board as a strategic Advisor to REIA and its Executive Team.
REIA’s president Badrinath Veluri commented: “I met Gareth at the University of Birmingham when he was completing his PhD and I am very pleased that he has agreed to advise our executive team. I wish to thank him for a great job done as Chair of REIA’s advisory Board. Never change a winning team!”.
Regarding his new role, Gareth commented: “Since its inception in 2019, REIA has played an important role in advocating for the global rare-earth value chain and its sustainable development. I look forward to continuing to assist REIA’s Board of Directors and its Executive Team in advancing the association’s objectives, at a time when rare-earth materials have never been more critical.”
As an expert in critical materials in general and rare-earth elements (REEs) in particular, Gareth is well known and much appreciated in the REE world where he has spent most of his career so far.
Gareth is Managing Director of UK-based Strategic Materials Advisory, a consulting and advisory firm operating in the critical materials sector. He was previously a co-founder of USA-based Technology Metals Research (TMR), and of Canada-based Innovation Metals Corp (IMC). He began his career at USA-based Dexter Magnetic Technologies, focused on REE permanent-magnet design and engineering.
In addition to his work with REIA, Gareth is a co-chair of the NATO Science and Technology Organization (STO) strategy team on REEs, and a member of the UK ISO TC/298 Mirror Committee, working to develop international standards for the REE industry. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining and a Chartered Engineer.
Gareth is a two-time graduate of the University of Birmingham, with a B.Eng. (Honours) degree in materials science & technology and a Ph.D. degree in metallurgy & materials, focused on REE permanent-magnet alloys.
Please join us to give a warm welcome to Gareth!
