REIA Campaign: Establishing EU-Domestic Rare Earth Supply Chains for Energy Saving Applications by Inclusion in Innovation Fund
At the European parliament, there are two upcoming amendments to the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) Directive Update’s text at ENVI: AM-353 and AM-1189 The EU ETS is a cornerstone of the EU’s policy to combat climate change and its key tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions cost-effectively. The package proposes to revise several pieces of the EU’s climate legislation.
These amendments will allow for the inclusion of “rare earth supply chains” that are critical for the European manufacturing of these highly-energy-saving technologies into the Innovation Fund as a distinct category. This will be the first step to address the market failure that has been preventing rare earth producers from development large-scale, end-to-end supply chains in Europe.
Considering how important critical raw materials are for the EU’s supply chain resiliency, your support of AM-353 and AM-1189 would be transformative for OEMs of electric vehicles, wind turbines and high-efficiency industrial pumps to develop supply chain resiliency. The campaign for AM-353 and AM-1189 is supported by a growing coalition of industry associations and stakeholders in Brussels.
