Tronox Joins the Global Rare Earth Industry Association
The Rare Earth Industry Association (“REIA” or the “Association”) is pleased to report that Tronox Holdings plc (NYSE: TROX, “Tronox” or the “Company”) has become a member of the Association.
Tronox is a vertically integrated mining and inorganic chemical business that mines and processes titanium ore, zircon and other minerals, and manufactures titanium dioxide pigments. Tronox’s existing mining operations and tailing piles in South Africa and Australia contain significant quantities of monazite, a mineral containing rare-earth elements.
Jeff Engle, the Company’s senior vice-president, commercial and strategy, commented “Tronox is pleased to become a member of the Rare Earth Industry Association as we look for ways to optimize the value of our rare-earth containing minerals present in the deposits we typically mine for titanium ore and zircon. As the demand for rare-earth elements found in monazite is increasing dramatically given their use in many facets of the emerging green economy, including permanent magnets for electric vehicle motors and wind turbines, Tronox is currently evaluating a range of options to leverage our expertise to further unlock the value of rare earths generated from our operations”.
Dr. Badrinath Veluri, President of REIA, commented, “We are very pleased to welcome Tronox to REIA, as our newest member. As a well-established player in the mineral industry, the company’s expansion into the rare-earth sector is in keeping with REIA’s desire to see the development of a diversified and sustainable rare-earth value chain. We look forward to working with Tronox and to building a strong partnership”.
Tronox had sales revenue of $3.45 billion and Adjusted EBITDA of $875 million in 2022.
Tronox Holdings plc is one of the world’s leading producers of high-quality titanium products, including titanium dioxide pigment, specialty-grade titanium dioxide products, high-purity titanium chemicals, and zircon.
